C.C. Sabathia 161 Million Down the Drain

SEBASTIAN SMITH ’11

Indians Yankees BaseballC.C. Sabathia is making 161 million dollars over the next seven years with the Yankees. That makes him one of the highest paid athletes in professional sports. With that kind of money he should be throwing no hitters and complete games, but on opening day he only lasted 4 and 1/3 innings while giving up six runs on eight hits. Furthermore, Sabathia did not have a single strikeout and walked five. Many believe he was injured, but the Yankees and Sabathia were both very adamant that he is healthy. Sabathia was later seen with a heat pack on his abdomen, but Brian Cashman, the team’s general manager, announced it was only a preventative measure. Sabathia was the first pitcher to start ever in new Yankee Stadium this past week against the Indians and gave up one run, walked five, and strike out four in five innings. The Yankees went on to lose that game 10-2.
