Ultimate Clobbers Chapel Hill Chargers: 15-6

ADAM OFFIT ’09 & TYLER STARR ’10

The pouring rain and muddy field did not stop the desperate Beaver Ultimate Frisbee team from getting their first win of the season against Chapel Hill. Ultimate’s first two games were very close losses: 15-13 to Belmont Hill and 15-11 against Pingree. So when the team showed up to Chapel Hill, they knew a win was necessary to turn their season around. Chapel Hill took an early 3-1 lead, but Beaver dug deep and went on a 7 to 1 run ending the half 8-4, Beaver’s lead. After making a few half time adjustments, Beaver continued to dominate and went on to win 15-6. One of the many highlights of the game was that all members of the frisbee team played in this game and all contributed positively. This was just the motivation the team needed for their game this Friday against CSW. Coaches Schatz and Melvoin both agreed that it was a great effort given the weather conditions and were happy everyone got a chance to play. Melvoin went on to say that she was pleased with some of the acrobatic catches.

Outstanding Performances: After suffering a sprained ankle early in the season, tri-captain Adam Offit showed all the doubters that he can still compete at the elite level of play despite his early injury. Offit had 5 receiving touchdowns, two of which were diving catches into the huge mud puddles on the field, and threw for another 4. Rafael Cabral, also plagued with injury at the beginning of the season, absolutely dominated the middle of the field; he threw for at least two touchdowns and caught three. Jon Zibrak and Sam Freeman did a stellar job handling the disc in the game and really controlled the offensive production.
