It’s Complicated, starring Meryl Streep, Alec Baldwin, Steve Martin, and John Krasinski, and directed by Nancy Meyers is a modern-day romantic comedy that will make any viewer chuckle.  Jane (Streep) is a mother of three children and is the owner and manager of a bakery in California.  Jane’s husband, Jake (Baldwin) cheated on Jane with Agness (Lake Bell), and the two got divorced.  Fast forward 15 years: Jane is still running the bakery, but all of her kids are grown and moved out, and her ex-husband is now married to the former “other woman.”  However, Jane and Jake still find themselves reminiscing about their relationship and what their lives were like when they were with eachother.  In addition, Jane and Jake’s youngest son is graduating from college in New York City, and the two coincidentally find themselves at the same bar in the same hotel.  They spend the whole night dancing and drinking their cares away and eventually end up in bed together.  In swoops Adam (Martin), who is Jane’s architect for the addition to her house and her soon-to-be love interest.  Jane now finds herself romantically involved with two polar-opposite men.  It’s Complicated is one of Nancy Meyer’s finest movies, competing with her 2003 film, Something’s Gotta Give, starring Jack Nicholson, Diane Keaton, Keanu Reeves, and Amanda Peet.  Meryl Streep tackles another fabulous role along with Alec Baldwin in a role very unlike his usual ones.  In my opinion, however, the actor that shined through the most is Steve Martin.  Martin takes on a hilarious role as Jane’s love interest and adds his usual comedic skill to the dynamic of Streep and Baldwin.  It’s Complicated is a movie for anyone who wants a good laugh and a chance to say “Awww!”
This movie has received very good reviews, and I agree with the critics who rave about the movie; I loved it.  Although the movie is quite long, it is entertaining throughout the whole hour and 54 minutes.  The plot is very humorous and clever, and the skills of the actors together made the movie shine.  People have said it is a chick flick, but I disagree.  There are many guys who have seen it who really liked it.  I highly recommend this film for people of all genders and ages.
