Boston’s Boy

TAYLOR HAYES ’12

When I ask most people, “Have you heard about Sam Adams?,” they pause and respond with, “you mean…the beer?”  No. Sam Adams is Boston’s next big thing. The emerging rapper, named Samuel Adams Wisner, is actually a distant great-grandson of Quincy Adams: America’s sixth president. The Cambridge resident currently attends Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut, where he is captain of the Men’s Varsity Soccer team. Before Trinity, Adams attended Beaver Country Day School for his sophmore year but graduated from Wayland High School in 2006. He found success by uploading his songs onto Youtube, including his remix of Asher Roth’s “I Love College”. Today his “I Hate College (Remix)” has over 136,626 views. Sam Adams released his first EP on iTunes this past March. In one day, it sailed to number one, beating out more well-known rappers such as Lil’ Wayne. But with all of his fame comes a well-expected controversy . Many people in the music industry began to suspect that Adams and his partners purchased over 75,000 dollars of his own music, which launched the EP to the number one spot. The 22-year-old retailiated by saying that it was his growing fan base that helped him top the charts. While there is still skeptiscim over how he became number one, all of the press isn’t hurting his ever-growing popularity, especially among the New England college set. Currently, Sam Adams is working on finishing his senior year at Trinity, where he is majoring in political science and recording new music. Even though he is beginning to make his fame across the country (he was featured on E! News last week), he will always be Boston’s boy.
