Ultimate Rattles Pingree 15-5, Extending Win Streak to Three

Since the beginning of the Schatz coaching era, Beaver has not been able to play well against Pingree. Last season especially, the Ultimate squad squandered beating Pingree. With only eight available players for the first Pingree match of this season, Beaver’s odds were looking grim. Before the game started, the team decided to dedicate the hard work they were going to put in for Coach Schatz so he could finally have a win against Pingree under his belt. Despite only having one sub, the team pulled together and started the game strong, taking an early 5 to 1 lead. They were ahead 8-4 going into half. Though it certainly seemed as if Pingree’s numerous substitute players were going to make the difference in the second half, Beaver went on a seven to one run to win the game.

Beaver has now won three games in a row, beating Belmont Hill, CHCH, and Pingree. There were many highlites from this game: swinging the disc well on offense, relentless cup defense by Geoff “The Bandit” Mayer ’10, Sam Barbell ’12, and John Grosel ’12, beating a zone defense, and Noah Jallos-Prufer’s ’13 first touchdown catch. Above all these though, certainly the biggest achievement would be beating Pingree with only one sub. Even though many of them only were on the bench for one out of the twenty points, the players did not get tired, and their zone defense proved it. Beaver was missing their cup specialist Sam Lynch ’10, rookie star line backer Murray Hershkowitz ’10, main intimidator Brett Duboff ’10, and strong handler Abe Hyatt ’13.

Their next match is against Milton, who was very talented last season. The team needs to focus on their transition play and zone defenses if they want to beat more experienced teams. Will Beaver Ultimate have enough to keep their win streak alive?
